The Rapid Rehousing program provides services for households experiencing homelessness in Chicago to rapidly exit from homeless shelters or unsheltered locations and maintain stable housing. Services include housing location, rental assistance, and case management services for up to 24 months. While in housing, case managers work with households to establish a long-term housing plan and connect to services necessary to help the household successfully remain in housing.
With expanded investments in Rapid Rehousing, Chicago has been able to implement new processes in line with national best practices including centralized landlord outreach and engagement and coordinated "Accelerated Moving Events" where participants can complete multiple stages of the housing process at once. New processes have helped to speed up the time it takes to get a household into rapid rehousing by 17 days on average (a reduction from an average of 76 days to 59 days from referral to housing move-in date).
