Recent Updates

Awarded $5.8 million across 48 grants to community artists under the Together We Heal Creative Place Program to support art projects that promote healing and transformation in Chicago’s neighborhoods, with a focus on communities disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and systemic racism.

Among more than 180 applications, the 48 finalists were selected based on artistic merit, project feasibility, benefit to the community, community engagement experience, and connection to the Together We Heal guiding values.

Conducted six community engagement sessions and issued survey to assess community needs and best use of Arts Relief and Works Fund, in collaboration with Arts Alliance Illinois and Chicago Cultural Alliance

I come from a generation where public spaces were not allowed for communities of color, and we had trouble accessing them. We were gentrified out of our communities when urban renewal was occurring…so the fact that the City has put together this project for public healing in public spaces is quite remarkable.
